Afzal Wood Contractor: Wood work and metal grills in Lahore. Kitchens, wardrobes, doors, furniture, window grills, gates and railings, made in our own workshop in Chung and fitted across the city. Free site measurement and quotation.

A feature wall of fluted timber panels with concealed lighting either side of a stone-clad column.

Wood work since 2014

Elegant wood work, at honest prices.

We make kitchens, wardrobes, doors, furniture and paneling. Material picked for the room it goes in, a finish sprayed rather than brushed, and fittings set so nothing sticks or drops a year later. Most of our work comes from people who saw the last job we did.

Free site measurement and quotation, and no obligation after it.

Two trades
Joinery and steel, both in house

What we make

Joinery and steel, both made here

Two trades. Every rate below is quoted the way the trade quotes it, so you can hold our number against anybody else's and know you are comparing the same thing.

A dark timber double main door with raised and carved panels at the top of marble steps.

Wood work

Cut and assembled on our own benches, then installed. The rate we quote includes the carcass, the shutters, the hardware and the installation, so there is nothing to add on later.

Kitchens

Marine ply carcass, shutters in Lasani board, veneer, laminate or acrylic depending on the budget. We set the carcass out to the wall as we find it, not to the drawing, so the run finishes tight against both ends.

Price
Priced per running foot
Typical time
5 to 8 weeks
We commit to
Hardware: soft-close, 1 year warranty
Wardrobes

Full height wherever the ceiling allows it, because the top two feet of a wardrobe is the cheapest storage in the house. Lasani carcass in a dry room, marine ply in any room that shares a wall with a bathroom.

Price
Priced per running foot
Typical time
3 to 6 weeks
We commit to
Carcass: marine ply
Doors and frames

Solid deodar or sheesham, or an engineered core with a hardwood lipping where the budget is tighter. Stock is checked with a moisture meter before it is cut, and every frame is treated against termite.

Price
Priced per piece
Typical time
2 to 4 weeks
We commit to
Timber: kiln-dried, anti-termite treated
Furniture

Beds, dining tables, sofas, study units, TV consoles. Made to the room rather than bought to a standard size, which matters most in a bedroom that has to take a king bed and still open its wardrobe.

Price
Priced per piece
Typical time
4 to 7 weeks
We commit to
Finish: PU, sprayed in our booth
Paneling and media walls

Wall paneling, media walls, ceiling battens. The substrate is written on the quote, because a media wall in Lasani and one in marine ply are different jobs at different prices and look identical on the day.

Price
Priced per square foot
Typical time
2 to 4 weeks
We commit to
Substrate: stated on the quote
A black steel staircase railing with vertical balusters on the flight and horizontal bars on the landing.

Grills and railings

Welded on our own benches. Two quotes at the same rate per square foot can differ by a third in the steel that actually goes into them, so we write the section, the size, the gauge and the spacing on every quote.

Ask about grills and railings
Window and door grills

Made to each opening rather than to one size for the whole house, because openings in an older building are rarely square. Fixed into the brick with expansion anchors, never into the plaster.

Price
Priced per square foot of opening
Typical time
1 to 3 weeks
We commit to
Bar size, gauge and spacing on the quote
Main gates

Sliding or swing, in mild steel or wrought iron. The hinge is sized to the weight of the leaf, and the leaf is set with a summer gap so it does not bind in June when the steel has grown.

Price
Priced per piece, leaf size stated
Typical time
2 to 4 weeks
We commit to
Hinge sized to leaf weight
Staircase and balcony railings

Mild steel, wrought iron or stainless 304. Stainless costs more at the start and nothing after that, which is usually the right answer on a staircase that gets touched every day.

Price
Priced per running foot
Typical time
2 to 4 weeks
We commit to
Welds ground back and primed before finish
Safety doors and canopies

Second doors, terrace and stair-head enclosures, canopy and shed frames. Anything that lives outdoors is galvanised or powder coated over a properly prepared surface, not painted straight over mill scale.

Price
Priced per square foot
Typical time
2 to 4 weeks
We commit to
Outdoor work: galvanised or powder coated

Six jobs from the last year

Each one names the size, the material and the finish, because those are the three things you need in order to hold one quotation against another. Ask anyone else quoting you for the same three.

Kept in house

What we do not subcontract

Plenty of contractors in this trade take your order and send it to somebody else's workshop. You find out when the job comes back wrong and nobody will own it. These three things happen on our own benches, and you are welcome to come and watch any of them.

01

Seasoning and joinery

Timber is bought in the plank and stacked in our own rack, not bought cut to size on the morning it is needed. Every board is checked with a moisture meter before it goes near the saw. All cutting, carcass assembly and joinery happens on our benches, so if a joint is wrong it is our joint and we fix it.

A door leaf with a herringbone timber face laid flat on the workshop floor, part way through the build.

02

Welding and fabrication

Grills, gates and railings are welded here. Every weld is ground back flush and primed before the piece leaves the workshop, because the weld is the first place rust starts and it is the one place a finish coat cannot reach once the piece is fitted. We do not buy in finished grills and resell them.

A bare welded grid in black steel box section, fixed below a ceiling before the lights go in.

03

Our own spray booth

New joinery is sprayed in our booth, not on site. Site spraying is done in whatever dust the room has that day, and it is why a shutter that looked perfect in the house feels gritty a week later. It is the last thing that happens to your job before it is loaded on the van.

A reception counter with a fluted front, finished and standing in the workshop yard ready to load.

Free site measurement and quotation

We come out, measure, look at the walls and the damp, and send a written quotation naming the material, the hardware and the finish. No charge, and nothing owed if you go elsewhere.

Process

How we work

Four stages, with the time each one actually takes. If a stage is going to run over, you hear it from us before the date, not after it.

  1. 01

    Measurement

    Within 2 working days

We come to the site, measure, and look at the walls, the floor and the openings before quoting anything. Free, and nothing is owed if you go elsewhere.

  2. 02

    Drawing and written quotation

    3 to 5 days

A layout drawing and a written quotation naming the material, the hardware, the gauge and the finish. One page, and no line on it called miscellaneous.

  3. 03

    Workshop

    2 to 8 weeks

Cutting, assembly, welding and spraying, all here. You are welcome to come and see your job on the bench at any point, and most people do once.

  4. 04

    Installation and handover

2 to 6 days on site

Fitted, adjusted and cleaned up. We walk the job with you and write down anything you are not happy with, then come back and close the list.
